LIHEAP expanded for 2008

Rep. Mark G. Gergely
36th Legislative District
Allegheny County

Winter weather is just around the corner, and with colder temperatures and a sagging economy, I know that can mean hard times for local families.

Fortunately, Gov. Rendell announced he will expand the 2008 Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) with an additional $87 million to help Pennsylvania families in need.

The eligibility income for Pennsylvania families has increased. That means families can earn more and still qualify; the income limit is up to $44,443 for a family of four.

Additionally, the minimum value of LIHEAP cash grants has increased, from $100 to $300. If you require crisis assistance, you may be eligible for a maximum grant of $800, up from $300. The program opens Nov. 3.
