Homestead Community Day 2008

Homestead Community Day 2008
Saturday July 12, 2008
Frick Park
Homestead, PA

Homestead Community Day 2008 is certainly following the old tradition of why these festivities were initially created; to engage the entire community in an enjoyable and neighborly event! This particular affair will be the site where numerous social service groups, church groups, local entertainers, and local government come together to offer the residents a fun -filled day.

To start the day, the Community of the Crucified One will host a flea market held at 521 East 8th Avenue at 8:00 AM. Another flea market will be held by St. Nicholas Church beginning at noon in St. Nicholas Church basement on the corner of Ann and 9th Ave.

In Frick Park at noon we will be greeted by Steeley McBeam. Steeley will be sporting his best smile for pictures which will be taken of him and residents by the Waterfront Best Buy.

Food booths, the bounce and slide house, along with great sounds by DJ Stefan from WYEP will put everyone in a festive mood. Mr. Bills Petting Zoo, and Pony Rides are sure to put smiles on the children’s faces. Tattoos by The WORKSHOP, Rebecca the Balloon Artist, as well as caricatures by the Art Institute of Pittsburgh will delight the young art enthusiasts.

Come and meet your favorite TV newscaster Brenda Waters at 2:00 PM.

Check with our Pennsylvania Department of Treasury Representative who may have found some long lost money that may be coming to you from an unknown inheritance, tax reimbursement, etc. Pony rides, an inflatable slide, petting zoo, clowns, games for the children.

More than 400 residents attended the event last year and we are hoping for an even bigger crowd this year. There will be something for everyone!

Our public safety departments will also be involved in this year’s festivities. The Fire Safety House is a FREE fire safety education program designed to teach children important aspects of fire safety. The House contains the three rooms where fires start most frequently in a home: the kitchen, the living room and the bedroom. Demonstrations will be conducted by our fire fighters throughout the day.

The Homestead Police Department will be highlighting their new canine officer with trainer Patrolman Matt Fusco available to introduce SISCO.

UPMC Braddock Hospital will be offering health screenings also.

The stage entertainment begins with:
Sharon Kampe 12:00
Community of the Crucified One Ensemble 12:15
YMCA @ UPMC Braddock’s Tri-Boro Steepers 1:15
The Small Family Singers 2:00
Wine & Spirit 3:15
Tyree 4:15
Johnny Fontaine 5:00

Come and fill your day with wonderful local entertainment, games, raffles, the prospects of finding long lost money, meeting TV personalities, buying jewelry and T-shirts and most of all eating the most delectable ribs, french fries, cotton candy, snow cones, haluska, roast beef, and sausage a festival could offer.
